Veneers are thin, tooth-shaped porcelain shells. They are meant to fit over your existing teeth and cover up their front surfaces. Once they’re in place, veneers look, feel, and function just like real teeth.
Because they cover up the natural enamel of your tooth, they are very versatile, and can be used to treat almost any problem with your smile. From covering up stains, to enlarging misshapen teeth and even covering up minor chips, veneers are an ideal solution for most cosmetic dentistry patients in the Modesto area.
Veneers have lots of benefits. As mentioned, they are extremely versatile, and can be used to cover up almost any cosmetic flaw. Porcelain veneers are a durable and long-lasting cosmetic treatment. Cared for properly, you can expect your treatment to last many years, possibly up to 20 years.
You care for them just like natural teeth. Brush and floss normally, and see Dr. Acree in Modesto for a checkup every six months. However, to make sure they last a long time, you should avoid biting into really hard foods or chewing non-food objects. If you grind your teeth, you should also wear a mouthguard at night to protect your veneers.
Of course, the biggest benefit is that you will have a beautiful, flawless smile. You’ll feel more confident when you smile, laugh, speak, and eat around others. You’ll even look younger, since stained and damaged teeth are often associated with aging. Interested in saving money for your dental care? Ask about our in-office dental savings plan today!
To begin, Dr. Acree will need to examine your mouth and determine if veneers are right for you. Some oral health problems, such as active gum disease or tooth decay, may prevent you from getting cosmetic dentistry.
After you’ve been approved for treatment, you’ll schedule your next appointment in Modesto. At this appointment, Dr. Acree will clean and numb your mouth. Then, he will gently trim away a very thin layer of enamel. This is done to make room for your porcelain veneers, and to ensure they don’t affect your bite. Then, he will take impressions and scans of your teeth. This information is used by our partner dental lab to build your veneers.
You will be sent home with a set of temporary veneers to cover up and protect your teeth. Dr. Acree will work with a dental lab to build your permanent set of veneers, which should arrive at our office within a few weeks.
When your permanent veneers have arrived, you’ll come to our office for your final appointment. Dr. Acree will double-check the fit of each veneer and make any necessary minor adjustments. Then, he will bond each one into place. Finally, he’ll give you some tips on how to care for your new teeth, then send you home to enjoy your brilliant, brand-new smile.
For the most part, you can care for your veneers just like you would care for your natural teeth. You should brush your teeth at least twice a day for two minutes, and use fluoride toothpaste. Brushing keeps your natural teeth healthy, and ensures that decay doesn’t form between your teeth and your veneers.
You’ll also need to floss regularly to remove food particles that can’t be removed with brushing alone. You should also avoid smoking or using tobacco products, since tobacco use is associated with a higher risk of oral health complications. In addition to this, we recommend maintaining a tooth-healthy diet, and avoiding excess consumption of sugary foods and beverages.
Speaking of eating, you should also take care when eating certain foods. You should chew really hard foods like nuts and pretzels with your rear teeth, and avoid biting into them with your veneers. You also should never chew on non-food objects like ice, fingernails, or pens and pencils. Also, avoid using your teeth as tools. If you use your teeth and/or veneers to do things like tear open packages or rip tape, you could stress them and shorten the lifespan of your veneers.
Finally, make sure that you come to Downey Park Family Dentistry for a checkup and a teeth cleaning every six months. During your routine appointment, our team will clean your teeth and veneers, and Dr. Corey Acree will check on your veneers to make sure they're in great shape.
If you have a healthy mouth but there are flaws in your smile like gaps between teeth, severe stains, or uneven teeth, veneers from Dr. Acree may be right for you.
However, it is important to note that veneers are only meant to treat cosmetic issues with your teeth. It is not recommended to get veneers if you have significant oral health problems like damaged teeth, periodontitis, or have orthodontic issues that require correction.
