How Can I Maximize My Dental Insurance Benefits?

If you have a dental insurance plan and want to get the most from your coverage, there are a few things you should know. Read on and get the details from Downey Park Family Dental.

1. Most Dental Plans Use A 100-80-50 Coverage Structure

This can vary based on the plan, but most dental plants use a 100-80-50 coverage structure. What this means is that 100% of the cost of preventive dental care is covered by your policy.

However, only 80% of “basic” procedures like fillings and root canals will be covered. Further still, 50% of “major” procedures like crowns, bridges, and dentures will be covered.

Basically, the more serious your oral health issues are, the more you’ll pay out of pocket when you get treatment. This is one of the reasons why maintaining your oral health is so important.

2. That Means Your Dental Exams And Cleanings Will Have No Out-Of-Pocket Costs

Based on the above coverage structure, 100% of the cost of teeth cleanings and oral exams will be covered. Almost all plans cover two cleanings per year, as well as a set of annual x-rays.

That means it’s a good idea to always see your dentist in Modesto twice a year. If you don’t, you’re not maximizing your benefits. Your routine appointments with Dr. Corey Acree won’t cost you a thing, so make sure to come to Downey Park Family Dental twice a year.

3. Your Plan Will Have An Annual Maximum & Yearly Deductible

Your yearly deductible is similar to a health insurance deductible, and typically ranges from $25 to $250. This is how much you must pay out-of-pocket before your dental plan kicks in.

The annual maximum is related to this. This is a limit on how much your plan will pay toward your dental care each year. Most plans cap this at $1,000 to $2,000. If you exceed this maximum, you will have to cover the remaining costs of your care.

4. In-Network Dental Care Will Usually Be Cheaper

The vast majority of dental plans are PPOs (Preferred Provider Organizations). This means you will get better coverage and pay less if you see a dentist that’s “in-network.” You can still get care from a dentist that’s out of the network, but you may face higher costs.

5. You Have Financing Options To Cover Out-Of-Pocket Costs

If you have a serious dental health issue, your dental plan may not fully cover it. But at Downey Park Family Dental, we offer payment plans and financing to ensure that you can finance the out-of-pocket costs of your treatment, and get the care you need without worrying about breaking the bank.
